How to use this tool
1. Enter your own figures below, or choose Load example to try the worked example. Check the units beside each field.
2. Select Calculate to see the result and its breakdown. If you change an input, calculate again before copying or printing.
3. Use Copy summary or Print / save PDF to keep your assumptions and results together. Reset clears the form.
How the calculation works
Each unit contributes selling price minus variable cost towards fixed costs. Break-even units divide fixed costs by that contribution and round up to whole units. Target-profit units divide fixed costs plus desired profit by contribution. Forecast profit is units sold × contribution − fixed costs.
Worked example
With $3,000 fixed costs, a $50 selling price and $20 variable cost, each sale contributes $30. Break-even is 100 units and $5,000 revenue. A $1,500 profit target needs 150 units; 120 forecast sales produce $600 profit.
Questions and assumptions
What this estimate includes
Models one product or a stable average product mix with a constant selling price and variable cost. It does not model capacity limits, stepped fixed costs, financing, taxes or changing discounts. When contribution is zero or negative, the tool asks you to revise the inputs rather than inventing a reachable target.
Can I save or share my result?
Copy summary includes the current inputs and results. Print / save PDF creates a local report with the calculation scope and source links. Your figures are not added to the page URL or stored by this tool. Refreshing clears the form.
