How to use this tool

1. Enter your own figures below, or choose Load example to try the worked example. Check the units beside each field.

2. Select Calculate to see the result and its breakdown. If you change an input, calculate again before copying or printing.

3. Use Copy summary or Print / save PDF to keep your assumptions and results together. Reset clears the form.

How the calculation works

Average kilowatts = input watts ÷ 1,000 × the entered power percentage. Daily kWh multiply average kilowatts by scheduled hours. Period kWh multiply daily kWh by operating days. Usage cost multiplies kWh by your cents-per-kWh rate and divides by 100 to obtain dollars. The scheduled-hour cost already includes the entered power percentage.

Worked example

At 2,000 watts, 100% power, 5 hours per operating day and 100 operating days, energy use is 10 kWh/day and 1,000 kWh for the period. A 28 cents/kWh tariff gives $2.80 per operating day and $280 for the period.

Questions and assumptions

What this estimate includes

The tariff is supplied by you; no live energy rates are fetched. Equipment with thermostats or variable loads can draw much less than its maximum rating. If you use measured average watts, leave the power percentage at 100% so the reduction is not applied twice. Energy Rating Label annual kWh is often a better basis for comparing appliances under standard test conditions.

Can I save or share my result?

Copy summary includes the current inputs and results. Print / save PDF creates a local report with the calculation scope and source links. Your figures are not added to the page URL or stored by this tool. Refreshing clears the form.
