How to use this tool

1. Enter your current salary in Offer A and the proposed salary in Offer B. For a pay rise, copy A to B and change the salary.

2. Set whether each salary includes super. Open the optional settings to enter weekly hours, the contractual super rate and annual commuting costs.

3. Use the same financial year and study loan assumptions for both offers. Compare annual cash after commuting and cash per paid hour, then save the report.

Compare a raise or two different jobs

Put your current annual salary in A and the new offer in B. For a pay rise, copy A into B, then change B's salary. Hours describe the work pattern for that salary; they do not pro-rate the entered annual amount. Enter the actual part-time annual salary if relevant.

Worked example

In 2026–27, with no HELP debt or commuting costs, an $80,000 salary excluding super leaves $63,880 after income tax and ordinary Medicare levy. A $90,000 salary leaves $70,680. The $10,000 raise adds $6,800 annually, or about $261.54 per fortnight, before any excluded items.

Questions and assumptions

Packages, super and commuting

Choose whether each offer includes super so the comparison starts with the same basis. Super uses the entered contractual rate over the whole salary without contribution-base caps. Commuting is deducted from take-home cash, not from taxable income. No deduction entitlement is implied.

Scope and assumptions

Both offers are alternative full-year Australian resident adult scenarios using the same financial year and study loan balance. They are not added together. The estimate assumes salary-only income, no dependants and ordinary Medicare eligibility. It excludes Medicare levy surcharge, family reductions, deductions, other offsets and benefits. Compare job security, leave and working conditions separately. General information, not personalised financial advice.
